Computers 4 Kids is an organization which may provide computers to low income families with kids who cannot afford or do not have a computer. Located throughout the US in various communities, some organizations will provide education and training. You MUST check with the actual organization to verify what exactly they provide and to whom. As with any organization, they you must qualify according to their guidelines - various rules do apply. Unfortunately, Computers 4 Kids is not a national organization, rather a community sponsored organization. Therefore, the organization does NOT have a national database and each office has to be located individually. Some use the C4K name, others do not. All time, services, labor, and computers are donated by their respective community.

Some of the areas used for determination are as follows: Priority is given to local community organizations, schools, and non-profit organizations. Individuals with disabilities or hardships where it is demonstrated that the computer would enhance the person’s life. The criteria for deciding where the computers are distributed has been kept deliberately informal, as the particular type of equipment that we have, and the requests vary significantly. This has not posed a problem in the past and we hope it will continue to work in the same way

       GiveTech
People with severe physical disabilities struggle greatly with things most of us take for granted. Without help, many cannot write a letter, make a phone call, buy something from a store, or hold down a job. In very severe cases, even basic communication is impossible in any but the most laborious of ways. The computer (and, through it, the Internet) solves many of these problems and opens up whole new worlds to the severely physically disabled. Imagine the feeling of self-reliance that comes from needing something and ordering it over the Internet. Imagine the self-esteem one can gain from entering an Internet chat room and being thought of and treated as a 'regular' person, not someone with a severe disability. This computer-aided autonomy is impossible without an input device designed for the disabled. However, for many people, the cost of such a device excludes them from this new world of opportunities offered by the computer and Internet. GiveTech plans to solve this problem for many financially disadvantaged people with severe physical disabilities. 415.750.2576

I'm a resident at a sober living facility in Big Bear Lake, CA

There are 10+ individuals living at the sober living.

Many things are done online now, (ex: job applications) and many of the residents at my sober living have limited or no knowledge of computers.

If there would be any possible way to receive a donation of a computer(s) I believe it would benefit us all greatly. With my knowledge of computers and a donation of computer(s) I feel it would change the lives of these individuals and prepare them for a better future.

Hello everyone! I am a Sunday school/Bible club teacher and live in the Appalacian area of WV. My students are very low income and I want to teach a 13 yr old boy to read. I would like to help the other students to do better in school too. The parents don't care and there are so many drugs in this mountain area ( go figure). I want these kids to turn out different and I would really love to have a computer to help them out and also for me to find books, lessons, etc. to help them. This is a big need and I hope and pray someone can answer that prayer. I moved here from Ohio leaving all my family and friends and I think God sent me here to make a difference. I am on SSI and barely make it myself. My church is so small, there isn't much money there. I love these children very much. Please pray for the children in my fold and ask Jesus to let this happen for us. God Bless you all ! :) Have a very wonderful day.

in response to annie80...   I have a suggestion that might be successful. I would contact the CEO's of various companies in writing and ask them to if they would donate a computer to your family. There's no guarantee this will work, but based on my own personal experience, some companies are generous with donations to individual's. Although I've never asked for a computer, I've received several donated items from companies just by asking, and it never hurts to ask.

While it is not free, I have found a place in houston that does offer refurbished computers to low income families for only $45.

        Ecycle houston

I will keep checking to see if I can find more. I hope this helps!

hi, i am a single mom of a ten yr old boy with adhd and behavioral promblems, we were homeless a few yrs ago due to my loss of job. and ever since i have been struggling to make life good again for my son. in the last yr we have moved from NH to CT and back in febuary to GA. I just recently got a part time job for a fast food resturaunt and am scraping by. with all of this moving around my poor son has lost friends and suffers from emotional and behavior problems he just wants a computer so he can stay in touch with friends and his teachers suggested it would help him in school too. they have websites geared to engage kids like tyeler and make school enjoyable. i just dont have the money and he is not aloud to use the computer where we live at now. is there any programs in Georgia that may be able to assist me in getting my son a laptop/computer?

        Hey, Wade!

I know how important it is for kids to have a computer today. I also know how expensive they can be.I just need a city and state ( or even county and state)  to work with and I will see what I can find. Most of these organizations are local, so, if you could help me out, I would be glad to see what is out your way. Thanks!

If there is anything else your mom may need help with, there is a lot of help available- especially for single moms. I know how hard it can be with one parent and one income.I know it is hard, but you seem like the type of kid who has the drive to achieve whatever he sets his mind to.

I have never seen a community so lacking in resources! This is probably the first time I have had such a hard time locating anything. Even the hospital website doesn't work?!!!

My best suggestion to you would be to contact your state department of aging. They seem to be your best possible source for assistance. Contact their ombudsman program perhaps they can intervene on your behalf with social security.

My only income is Food stamps-$200 per  month- I have a friend who is providing a roof/help/food. She is a single mother who is disabbled and only has a half of a lung. Otherwise, Id be homeless here in Mt.

I have no gas money to get to Dr's in Butte and need any help that might be offered. All info can be confirmed, with Dr or Social Security.

I have exhausted all local agencies- and ot seems I have fallen through the cracks

I did check shriners and kiwanis - neither site mentioned anything about gifts or grants to individuals - but it never hurts to ask...
